It's official! 2 Fat Nerds are going to be making an appearance at the 65th Annual Troy Turkey Trot!
The Scoop
This family tradition, which is the 12th oldest turkey trot in the United States, will be the culminating event of the day. For our 65th running we are returning to the traditional out and back course along River St. You’ll see plenty of live entertainment out on the course.
This has been a run that I've always wanted to do. Instead of sleeping in late with the only thing planned for the day being dinner, I've always wanted to start the day out right and make room for food! Troy is right across the Hudson River from my home city of Albany, NY, and it will be awesome to run a local hometown race.
The Course
The course itself is actually extremely flat, so it should be a fast race. There really is nothing crazy, it's a nice flat run along the river and back.
This would be a great first race to do for the first time runner as well, as there will be plenty of people running to simply have fun, in all sorts of costumes and things. The race amenities look pretty awesome too!
The other cool thing about this race is that it starts at 9:45, so all of you non-morning folks like me shouldn't have any problem with that! I am planning on doing the 5K version of the race, so that I can run with my Mom and Dad (who don't know they are doing this yet). Love you!
The Registration Fee
The awesome part of this race is the low 20 dollar entry fee. That is one of the cheaper race fees that I've seen, and I was very excited to see that! I believe the registration process is open, but I imagine they eventually cap off the number of runners, so don't delay too long.
T-Shirts
I think it would be really cool to get Team T-Shirts for everyone that wants to run and participate. If there is enough interest and we can order enough to drive the cost down, this is something I would totally be up for. We actually have ordered some shirts for this coming half-marathon, so I know a guy that does it now!
If you do register PLEASE POST A COMMENT so I can get a head count ahead of time. I'd love to see all you Albany Folks turn out for it!
AW MAN! I wish I knew about this before I signed up for the one in Buffalo!
Haha, thats all good, we can make it a virtual 5k around the state!
I want to do that one, too! Imagine a caravan of races on Thanksgiving . . . Epic.
Good luck! It looks like fun!
I’ll be there. I want a shirt.
I’m in.
I’ll be there, with my Dad!
Awesomeeeee!!!!!!
I may never run again after Sunday, i’ll let you know then.
I am going to make Mike dress up as a turkey and run 🙂
Dress up as a pilgrim and chase him down!
This is Dad responding. I had to censor Mom’s comment. It’s fun to highlight and hit the delete key. We are registered! Now off to just one more ice cream cone before we start training.
