Happy Monday Fat Nerds!
Last week wrapped up nicely with a great post from Dave, encouraging us all to get out there and start walking a little bit more. I took that advice and ran (or walked…) with it this weekend.
Fall is my favorite season because it is not too hot and the sun is almost always shining in New England. The leaves are changing and every day I’m not at work I feel guilty if I’m not outside. We all know too well that the nice weather won’t last forever, and they’re already predicting snow for this weekend.
Saturday I spent with a good friend from high school that recently moved to Boston. We took Winston to see the Head of the Charles, the famous regatta that visits Boston/Cambridge each year. Its a fun weekend in Cambridge, with a large number of tourists congregating to watch a sport I know absolutely nothing about. I have never actually been to a regatta, so I thought it would be fun to take the dog and enjoy the bright sun along the river.
Inspired by Dave’s post, we chose to walk the 2.5 miles to the stretch of the river just beyond Harvard Square. Winston really enjoyed this long walk, getting the opportunity to meet many new dogs, and new smells, along the way. We sat and watched the boats row by for a little while before heading back through Cambridge to find our way home. It’s a pretty cool thing to watch! By the time we got home several hours later, we were all a little exhausted, and we ended up walking over 6 miles!
It was a great way to spend a Saturday. It’s always exciting to get to spend a day exploring parts of a city that you think you know so well. I always end up seeing things I’ve never seen before, and going on foot is the best way to see things. It was relaxing and we definitely got in some unexpected exercise. I was surprised by how sore I was when we got home and collapsed on the couch.
I’d love to hear some stories of how you were active this weekend! Comment to share! .
