On January 1, 2013, I wrote a post for 2 Fat Nerds vowing to make changes in the New Year. The concept of the New Year’s Resolution is not a new one, and every year we promise ourselves we will changes things we don’t like. The gyms fill up, we cut down on junk food, and the good feelings of the new year push us for about a month, if we’re lucky.
I don’t think I am making a list of resolutions this year. Yesterday, while I was feeling the fun from the night before, I had a lot of time to reflect on where I am right now. I am in an apartment with two friends I enjoy living with in one of the greatest cities in the world, I have an amazing family, an incredible set of friends, and a wonderful boyfriend. I am on the job hunt, hopeful and looking forward to the challenge of finding something I truly enjoy doing. And in terms of fitness, for the first year of my life, I am promising to continue my work outs, instead of promising to start. I feel so blessed and so fortunate to be wrapping up a pretty good year, and ready to begin one that is sure to be even better. It’s really easy to get down on yourself and where you are in life and its tempting to focus on the negative. Not this year!
Goal planning is what I do best, as frequent readers know, but for now I’m only going to plan on keeping with what I’ve been doing. What are your resolutions?
I am continuing my goal of getting more fit and feeling stronger. Returning to my personal peak fitness or beyond would be great this year.
Adrienne, how wise you are to count blessings rather than enter the new year with self-criticism. I think I’ll do the same. And, wow!, you do have an amazing family.
