Summer feels shorter each year. Maybe its because we had kind of a crappy Spring, or maybe its because I'm getting further away from school, where summers are more pronounced. Either way, it's making me a little sad. The other night I went shopping in search of new beach towels. I went to Target, Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Macy's, Old Navy, and Sears without finding ANY. All of the stores are gearing up for Back to School and sweater weather. Infuriating!
I am not looking forward to the end of summer, because everything in the North East is happier when the sun in shining, but I am definitely looking forward to cooler running weather. But really, now, let's not wish the summer away just for that.
This week I have kind of dropped the ball on running. Jeff and I are packing up and getting ready to move halfway across the country (more on this to follow) in just a couple weeks, so exercise kind of took a lower rung on the to-do list. I did get out last week for a good almost-6-miler, but according to my handy half marathon training schedule, I really should be up to 7 by now. I would be lying if I said my laissez-faire approach to training wasn't making me start to twitch. October will be just around the corner and if I'm not careful, I might run out of time to make myself comfortable for this little run.
What I've realized in the past year is that, if you let it, life can constantly side-track your goals. It's hard to make health and fitness a priority sometimes, especially when you're packing up your apartment and you know a pizza would be faster and way easier than preparing something healthy for dinner. I guess it isn't always feasible to get in that scheduled run, because sometimes, you actually just don't have the time. The best you can do is to not allow yourself to take off too much time. Missing one run is OK; missing a weeks worth of runs or every other long run is not. SO, I guess...let's go running.
What are your fitness plans this weekend?
Hey Adrienne,
I really enjoyed this quick post. I think the main thing with goals is that we simply don’t give up. All to many people (myself included) often just throw in the towel once the going gets difficult. You sound like your on the right track…best of luck with the move!
