I've spoke many times on this blog about Buffalo, undisputedly the greatest city on this here planet. Yesterday, the mayor of Buffalo declared a new holiday, 716 Day. This day was chosen as a nod to our beloved area code 716.
There is a general excitement in the air this summer. Our sports teams have made substantial moves. Jack Eichel, Evander Kane, LeSean McCoy, Percy Harvin . . . Rex Ryan are just a few examples of the Pegula's effect on Buffalo sports. Canalside is bustling and the Harbor Center is pulling in huge events like the NHL combine, Sledge Hockey World Championship, and the 2016 NHL Draft. Downtown is for real.
Besides sports, I was blown away by the bike trails at the Outer Harbor. Yesterday I took Audrey down to the water after her veterinary appointment (which she absolutely is terrified by) as a reward for good behavior, and I saw a water-powered jet pack flying around. People were out and about and enjoying areas of Buffalo that for years were industrial wastelands.
Admittedly, it is easy to cheer our city when we aren't under our layer of frost and ice, with the sun shining, but projects like RiverWorks and Canalside are working to make the harbor a year-round destination for skating, drinking and general fun.
I invite everyone to come for a Bills/Sabres/Bisons/Bandits game and explore downtown.
Or to play pickle ball! 😛
