Well, we obviously did not learn from the past very well. We are once again running the Boilermaker 15K in Utica, New York. For those of you not familiar with the race, here are some interesting tidbits about one of our favorite, feared, and mythical races on our schedule.

  • The average temperature is 69.97 degrees, with the hottest being 92 in 1988.

  • I blacked out after racing it in 2013... one of the hotter years!
  • There are 14 perennials that have run all 39 Boilermakers.
  • 51% of runners are female and 49% are male.
  • 315 barrels of beer are available for the post race party.
  • In 2014, the 15K closed in 2 hours and 19 minutes.
  • The course men's record was set in 1996, by Kenyan Joseph Kimani 42:40
  • The course women's record was set in 2010 by Kenyan Edna Kiplagat 47:57
  • Tutu (my grandmother) gives water out at mile 8 for the past 100 years.
  • The last American to win the Boilermaker was 1991.
  • This year is the 40th anniversary!
  • The National Distance Running Hall of Fame is in Utica, New York.
  • The Boilermaker organization is launching  a new race, the Erie Canal Half Marathon!
  • There are over 330 portapoties along the race . . . enjoy!
  • The number of ice and water stops along the route makes it one of the most supported races in the world!

It is an awesome race, if you are brave enough to climb the hills and battle the heat. We are very much looking forward to it this year. Hope to see you there!
